Indigenous to the Philippines, the abaca plant is closely related to and resembles the banana
plant. The structurally strong fibres are obtained from the layers of the overlapping leaf sheaths, which form
the stalk of the abaca plant. The outer layers are darkest and the inner layers lightest, ranging from dark
brown to white. There are seven shades of natural fibre and the white fibre can be dyed to produce any other
colour, making your rug a truely bespoke piece of craftmanship. Abaca is the strongest and most durable of
all plant fibres and is resistant to water.
